Draw all the possible structural formula...

Draw all the possible structural formulae having molecular formula `C_(6)H_(14)`. Give names to all the isomers. Which difficulties were faced by you while naming?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The structural formulae and names of all possible isomers having molecular formula `C_(6)H_(14)` are as follows :

b. For smaller carbon compounds, it is easier to use their common names. However, when the structural formulae of carbn compounds are large, it becomes difficult to assign them common name. In this case, the branched chains in the structural formulae made it difficult to assign them common names. The IUPAC nomenclature system makes it easier to name large carbon compounds.
