A ball hanging from a beam is balanced against weight placed on the other pan. Another ball is so placed that its centre is 2 cm vertically below the centre of the first ball. Two identical containers have the same volume of water in it. Each of them is placed on a balnce and redings of the two balances are same. There is a hollow ball and a solid ball that have same volume. The hollow ball floats in water and the solid ball sinks. A string from the ceiling suspends the solid ball so that it remains completely submerged in the water in the first container. The hollow ball is held submerged in the water in the second container and is held by a stringfastened to the bottom of the container. which balance will show higher reading? How will your answer change if the string in the second container is car?

There is a ball of radius r having uniformly distributed volume charge Q on it and there is a spherical shell of radius r having uniformly distributed surface charge Q on it. The two spheres are far apart. (a) A point charge q is moved slowly from the centre of the shell (through a small hole in it.) to the centre of the ball. Find work done by the external agent in the process. (b) The two spheres are brought closer so that their centers are separated by 4r. Now calculate the amount of work needed in slowly moving a point charge q from the centre of the shell to the centre of the ball. Assume that charge on one ball does not alter the charge distribution of the other. Does your answers in (a) and (b) differ? Why?

A charged ball of mass 5.88xx10^(-4) kg is suspended from two silk strings of equal lengths so that the strings are inclined at 60^(@) with each other. Another ball carrying a charge which is equal in magnitude but opposite in sign of the first one is placed vertically below the first one at a distance of 4.2xx10^(-2) m . Due to this, the tension in the strings is doubled. Determine the charge on the ball and the tension in the strings after electrostatic interaction. (g=9.8 m//s^(2))
