(a) Kolliker (1850) first showed the presence of mitochondria in living cells (straited muscle cells). (b) (i) Mitochondria helps in aerobic cellular respiration by carrying out TCA cycle, (ii) oxidation of fatty acids, electron transport and oxidative phosphorylation.
