Pinocytosis means 'drinking of cells', i.e., active intake of a fluid. The cell membrane invaginates to form a narrow channel, the pinocytic channel, within which the fluid enters. Then from the inner end of the channel, small fluid filled vesicles pinched off one by into the cytoplasm.
