Why lysosomes are termed 'Suicidal bags'?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Lysosomes are small, vesicular, single mambrane bound cell organelles of animal cell which store hydrolases in their fluid content. They fuse with endocytotic vesicle or damaged organelle and hydrolyse them and their own cell preventing other adjoining cell not to get damaged. This is the reason for which it is known as suicidal bag.
