Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The carotenoid are an important group of accessory pigments found in all green plants. Carotenoid usually consists of long hydrocarbon chains with a ring structure at each end . Under high light intensities the energy absorbed by chlorophyll cannot be used productively , then oxygen molecules may be partly reduced , forming radicals that react with , and destroy other molecule. These radicals bind readily to the double bonds in carotenoid molecules ,the carotenoid thus prevent the radicals from destroying chlorophyll.
