The required resistance has least value for ammeter and maximum value in the case of a voltmeter .
(i) The shunt resistance required to convert a galvanometer to ammeter has the value
`S = I_(g)/(I - I_(g)) xx G`
The shunt required for the milliammeter be higher value.
(ii) Similarly , The voltmeter should have a high resistance, the value of required resistance should be highest in the case of voltmeter.
This is connected in series with the coil of galvanometer.
