Give one test to differentiate [Co(NH3)...

Give one test to differentiate ` [Co(NH_3)_5Cl]SO_4 and [Co(NH_3) _5 SO_4 ]Cl `.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`[Co(NH_3) _5C1]SO_4 ` and `[Co(NH_3)_5SO_4]C1` are ionisation inomers .When these isomers are dissolved in water ,they ionise to give different ions in solution which react differently with different regents.
For Eg. 1: Barium chloride test
` [Co (NH_3) _5 Cl)]SO_4 + Ba^(2+) to BaSO_4 underset("white precipitate")downarrow`
`[CO(NH_3) _5Cl]Cl+Ba^(2+) to ` No reation
For Eg. 2: Silver nitrate test
` [Co(NH_3) _5 SO_4 ]Cl + Ag^(+) to AgC1 under set ("white precipitate ") downarrow `
` [CO(NH_3) _5 Cl ] SO_4 +Ag^(+) to ` No reaction
