Atoms X and Y form bcc crystalline structure, Atom X is present at the corners of the cube and Y is at the centre of the cube. What is the formula of the compound ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(i) It is given that the atoms of x are present at the corners of cube.
`:.` No.of atoms of x in one unit cell `=8 xx (1)/( 8) =1 `
(ii) It is also that the atoms of y are present at the body centre.
`:.` No. of atoms of y in one unit cell =1
Hence the formula of the compound is xy.
