The rate constant for a first order reac...

The rate constant for a first order reaction is `60 s^(-1)`. How much time will it take to reduce the initial concentration of the reactant to its `(1^(th))/(16)` values ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

It is known that,
`t=(2.303)/(k)"log"([R]_(0))/([R])`
`=(2.303)/(60s^(-1))"log"(1)/((1)/(16))`
`=(2.303)/(60s^(-1))log 16`
`= 4.6xx10^(-2)s` (approximately)
Hence, the required time is `4.6xx10^(-2)s`.
