the nerve impulse ordered by respiratory centre passes through vagus nerve to the intercostal muscless and diaphragm and regulates respiration. The respiratory centres are scattered in brain stem and are constantly giving off rhymically stimuli to the respiratory muscless in virtue of their inherent rhythm causing inspiration and expiration.
