The first human heart transplant was performed on 3rd December, 1967 by a team of 30 doctors headed by Prof. Christin Barnard on 55 years old Louis Washkansky at the Groote Schurr Hospital Cape Town, South Africa. Inspite of the operation by a leading surgeon Washkansky died on 21st December, 1967.
