BOD refers ot the amount of oxygen that would consume if all the organic matter in one litre of water is to be oxidized by bectria. The sewage water is treated till BOD is reduced. The greater the BOD , greater is the plluting potential . Once the BOD is reduced the effluent is then passed inot a setting tank where the bacterial flocas are allowed to settle.
