A ball is thrown from ground level so as to just clear a wall 4m high at a distance of 4 m and falls at a distance of 14 m from the wall. Find the magnitude and direction of the initial velocity.

The ball passes through the point P(4, 4). So its range = 4 + 14 = 18m. The trajectory of the ball is, Now x = 4m, y = 4m and R = 18 m `:. 4=4tantheta[1-4/(18)]=4tantheta7/9`
or `tantheta=9/7,sintheta=9/(sqrt130), costheta=7/(sqrt130)`

or ` u^2=(18xx9.8xx130)/(2xx9xx7)=182`
or `u=sqrt(182)=13.5ms^(-1)`
Also `theta=tan^(-1)(9//7)=52.1^(@)`
