What is covalent radius ? . How would you determine the covalent radius of chlorine atom .

The distance between the nuclear of two covalently bonded atoms is know as covalent distance ,or internuclear distance . The one -half of this inter - nuclear distance is called covalent radius . The covalent distance (Cl -Cl ) of `Cl_(2)` molecule is experimentally found as 198 pm `(198Å)`. Its covalent radius is 99 pm `(0.99Å)`
Cl-Cl inter nuclear distance `l=1.98Å`
`thereforer_((cl))=(1.98)/(2)=0.99Å`
