What is an ideal gas? Why do the real gases show deviations from ideal behaviour?

An ideal gas is defined as one in which all collisions between atoms or molecules are perfectly elecastic and in which there are no intermolecular attractive forces. An ideal gas is a gas that obeys the ideal gas law, PV=nRT, where n is the number of moles of the gas, R is the ideal gas constant, pressure P. volume V. and temperature T.
