What is gravity separation ?

(i) In gravity separation method, the ore having high specific gravity is separated from the gangue that has low specific gravity by washing with running water.
(ii) Ore is crushed to a finely powered form and treated with rapidly flowing current of water.
(iii) During this process the higher gangue particles are washed away by the running water.
(iv) This method is generally applied to concentrated the native ore such as gold and oxide ores such as haematite `(Fe_(2)O_(3))`, tin stone `(SnO_(2))` etc.
