Why does ozone act as a powerful oxidising agent ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(i) Ozone acts as a powerful oxidizing agent because ozone liberates nascent oxygen very easily on decomposition.
`O_(3)rarr O_(2)+[O]`
(ii) This nascent or atomic oxygen brings about the oxidation as it is very reactive.
