Action of con `H_(2) SO_(4) :` On treating with cold heptoxide which subsequently decomposes explosively.
`2KMnO_(4) + 2H_(2) SO_(4) to `
`Mn_(2) O_(7) + 2KHSO_(4) + H_(2) O`
`Mn_(2) O_(7) overset(Delta)(to) 2MnO_(2) + 3O_(2)`
But with hot conc .`H_(2) SO_(4)` potassium permanganate give `MnSO_(4)`
`4KMnO_(4) + 6H_(2) SO_(4) to`
`4MnO_(4) + 2K_(2)SO_(4) + 6H_(2)O + 5O_(2)`
