The position vectors particle has length...

The position vectors particle has length 1m and makes `30^(@)` with the x-axis. What are the lengths of the x and y components of the position vector?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Length of position vector `=OA=1m=l`
x = component of length `l_(x)=?`
y = component of length `l_(y)=?`
`cos30^(@)=(l_(x))/(l)=(l_(x))/(1)=l_(x)`
`therefore l_(x)=cos 30^(@)=(sqrt3)/(2)`
`sin30^(@)=(l_(y))/(l)=l_(y)`
`therefore l_(y)=sin 30^(@)=(1)/(2)`
`l_(x)=(sqrt3)/(2), l_(y)=(1)/(2)`
