A block of Ag of mass x kg hanging from ...

A block of Ag of mass x kg hanging from a string is immersed in a liquid of relative density 0.72. If the relative density of Ag is 10 and tension in the string is 37.12 N then compute the mass of Ag block.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Relative density of liquid `rho_("liquid") = 0.72`
Relative density of `Ag rho_(Ag) = 10`
Mass of the Ag block = ?
Tension in the string `T = 37.12 N`
Apparent weight `W_(app) = rho_(Ag) - rho_("liquid")`
`= 10 - 0.72 = 9.28`
`T_(Ag) = mg`
`m = (T_(Ag))/(g)`
`m = (37.12)/(9.28) = 4`
Mass `x = 4kg`
