What is Rayleigh's scattering?...

What is Rayleigh's scattering?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(i) If the scattering of light is by atoms and molecules which have size a very less than that of the wave length `lamda` of light `a lt lt lamda`, the scattering is called Rayleigh's scattering.
(ii) The intensity of Rayleigh's scattering is inversely proportional to fourth power of wavelength.
