(i) Protected areas:
(a) In - situ conservation is a strategy for conserving biodiversity which implies conservation in the which implies conservation in the natural habitats. This is the conservation of genetic resources through their protection within a natural or man made ecosystem in which they occur. It is conservation and protection of the whole ecosystem and its biodiversity at all levels in order to protect the threatened species.

(e) World Conservation monitoring centre has recognized 37,000 protected area world-wide. India has about 771 protected areas.
(f) Comprising of 104 National Parks, 544 Wild Life Sanctuaries, 18 biosphere reserves and several sacred groves.
