Define Resolving power of a Telescope.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(i) The ability to distinguish between two objects distinctly which is placed at infinite distance.
(ii) Resolving power of a telescope =`D/(1.22 lambda)`
(iii) D is the diameter/aperture of the objective lens, `lambda` be the wave length of the light.
(iv) The resolving power is inversely proportional to wavelength and directly proportional to the aperture of the lens.
