How will you predict the nature of chemical bonds using electronegativity values?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(i) If the difference in electronegativity between the two elements is 1.7, the bond has 50% ionic character and 50% covalent character.
(ii) If the difference is less than 1.7, the bond is considered to be covalent.
(iii) If the difference is greater than 1.7, the bond is considered to be ionic.
