Zinc granules react with hydrochlori...

Zinc granules react with hydrochloric acid to form zinc chloride accompanied by hydrogen gas . It is a displacement reaction .
`Zn_((s))+2HCl_((aq)) to ZZnCl_(2(aq)) +H_(2(g)).`
Based on the reactions given below arrange the metals involved in these reactions in decrasing order of reacitivity give suitable explanation .
1. `Zn+CuSO_(4) to ZnSO_(4) +Cu`
2. ` Cu + 2AgNO_(3) to Cu(NO_(3))_(2)+2Ag`
`3.Zn+FeSO_(4) too ZnSO_(4) +Fe `
`4. Fe +CuSO_(4) to Fe SO_(4) +Cu`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

1. Since Zn displaces Cu from `CuSO_(4)` solution . It is more reactive than Cu.
(ii) Since Cu displaces Ag from `Ag NO_(3) ` solution , it is more reactive than Ag.
3. Since zn Displaces Fe from `FeSO_(4) ` solution it is more reactive than Fe.
(iv ) Since Fe displaces Cu from `CuSO_(4)` solution it is more reacitve than Cuu.
The Decreasing order of reactivity of the metals is :
`Zn gt Fe gt Cu gt Ag `
