i. The cells of collenchyma have unevenly thickened walls. It contains more of hemicellulose and pectin besides cellulose.
ii. Thus the tissue serves as a mechanical tissue and also gives elasticity to the growing parts of the plants.
iii. Based on pattern of pectinisation of the cellwall, collenchyma is divided into three types.
