If the concentration of salt in the soil is too high and the plants may wilt even if the field is thoroughly irrigated. Explain.

1. High salt concentration results in high osmotic potential of the soil solution, so the plant has to use more energy to absorb water.
2. Under extreme salinity conditons , plants may be unable to absorb water and will wilt even if the surrounding soil is thoroghly irrigated.
