(a) The energy stored by virtue of its position or configuration is called as potential energy. PE = mgh. For a given mass, `PEalphah`
PE difference between any two points (heights) = `mg(h_(2)-h_(1))` where `h_(2)gth_(1)`
Also, `W=underset(x_(i))overset(x_(f))intf(x)dx=-underset(v_(i))overset(v_(f))intdV=V_(i)-V_(f)`
-ve sign indicates that work is done against the force. Infact work done against the force gets stored up as energy.
(b) The energy acquired by a body by virtue of its motion is called kinetic energy. `K.E=1//2mv^(2)` for a given mass `K.E.alphav^(2)`
The difference in the KE between any two points `=(1)/(2)m(v_(f)^(2)-v_(i)^(2))`
Also, `W=underset(x_(i))overset(x_(f))intf(x)dx=underset(K_(i))overset(K_(f))intdk=K_(f)-K_(i)`
Note `underset(x_(i))overset(x_(f))intf(x)dx` represents the work done by a variable force.
