Explain how marine animals can survive under ice on a frozen sea.

Water at `4^(@)`C has the maximum density and sinks down. However, water below the surface, relatively having lower density, rises above. Water becomes lighter as the temperature falls below `4^(@)`C. Ice at `0^(@)`C has the minimum density and floats on water. Hence marine animals can survive below ice. It is water everywhere below ice.
