A stone dropped from the tope of a tower of height 300m high splashes into the water of a pond near the base of the tower. When is the splash heard at the top, given that the speed of sound in air is `340ms^(-1)` ? ( `g= 9.8 ms^(-2)` )

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`h = 300m, t_(1) = sqrt((2h)/(g)) = sqrt((2 xx 300)/( 9.8 )) = 7.825s`
`t_(2) = ` time of traverse of sound `= ( h )/( v) = (300)/( 340) = 0.882 s `
`:.` sound is heard after `t_(1) + t_(2) = 7.825 + 0.882 = 8.707s`
