A steel rod 1m long is clamped at its middle. The fundamental frequency of longitudinal vibrations of the rod are given to be 2.53 KHz. What is the speed of sound in steel ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Given,` f = 2.53 xx10^(3) Hz`
l= 1m Here `l = ( lambda )/( 2) ` so that
v = fl
i.e., `v = 2 fl = 2 xx 2.53 xx 10^(3) xx1 `
` v = 5.06 kms^(-1)`

A sonar system fixed in a submarine operates at a frequency 40.0 kHz. An enemy submarine moves towards the sonar with a speed of 360kmh^(-1) . What is the frequency of sound reflected by the submarine ? Take the speed of sound in water to be 1450ms^(-1)

A 1.0 m long metallic rod is rotated with an angular frequency of 400 rad s^(-1) about an axis normal to the rod passing through its one end. The other end of the rod is in contact with a circular metallic ring. A constant and uniform magnetic field of 0.5 T parallel to the axis exists everywhere. Calculate the emf developed between the centre and the ring.
