What is centre of mass of a body ? Obtain an expression for the positive vector of a centre of mass of two particle system.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The point at which the entire of the particles appears to be concentrated is called the centre of mass. Centre of mass lies at the geometric centre.
`X=(m_1 x_1+m_2 x_2)/(m_1+m_2)`
Note : For n particles (discrete)
`X=(underset(i_i)overset(n)(sum)m_i R_i)/(underset(i=I)overset(n)(sum)m_i)and sum m_i=M=` mass of the whole body.
