Calculate the separation between two lon...

Calculate the separation between two long, straight parallel wires, carrying currents of 100 A and 50 A, if they repel each other with a force of 1 `Nm^(-1)`.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Given `I_(1)=100A, I_(2)=50A, F=1Nm^(-1)`
Let d be the separation between the two conductors then,
`" "F=(mu_(0)I_(1)I_(2))/(2pid)`
i.e., `" "d=(mu_(0)I_(1)I_(2))/(2piF)=(4 times 3.14 times 10^(-7) times 100 times 50)/(2 times 3.14 times 1)=1mm.`
