A telescope of aperture 0.02 m is used to focus the two head lamps 1.2m apart. If the wavelength of light emitted by the automobile is 589.6 nm then calculate the resolving power of the telescope. If the R.P of the eye is `3.436xx10^3 "rad"^(-1)`, then calculate the magnifying power of the telescope.

Given `D=0.02 m , x=1.2m , lambda=589.6 nm `
But, `R.P=(D)/(1.22 lambda)=(0.02)/(1.22xx589.6xx10^(-9)) "rad"^(-1)`
i.e., `R.P=0.0000278xx10^(9)"rad"^(-1)`
or `R.P=2.78xx10^(4) "rad"^(-1)`
Magnifying power of telescope `=("Limit of resolution of the eye")/("Limit of resolution of telescope")=(2.78xx10^4)/(3.426xx10^3)=8.09`
Magnifying power of the telescope is eight times that of the eye.
