Calculate the wavelength of H(alpha) lin...

Calculate the wavelength of `H_(alpha)` line (first member of Balmer series) and also Balmer series limit. Given `R=1.097 xx10^(7) m^(-1)`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Wave number of `H_(alpha)` line is `bar(v) = R (1/2^(2)-1/3^(2))=1.097xx10^(7)xx(5)/(36)`
`:. lamda=(36)/(1.097xx10^(7)xx5)=6.65xx10^(-7)m`
For Balmer Series limit, `bar(v)=R[(1)/(2^(2))-1/(oo^(2))]=R/4`
`:. lamda=4/(1.097xx10^(7))=3.646xx10^(-7)m " or "3646Å`
