`E_(n)=-(13.6)/(n^(2))eV " for "H_(2)` atom
`E_(1)=-13.6" eV", n = 1 `
`E_(3)=-(13.6)/(9)=-1.511eV`
`E_(4)=-(13.6)/(16)=-0.85eV`
So that, `E_(3)-E_(1)=12.08eV`
and `E_(4)-E_(1)=12.75eV`
Since applied beam has energy `gt 12.75eV` the excitation will be upto `E_(3)` possible number of transition = 3 .
There will be two spectral lines in the Lyman series and one in the Balmer series.
