Explain the working of a zener diode as a voltage regulator.

Circuit diagram.
The circuit connections are made as shown in the figure. The circuit contains a zener diode, an unregulated voltage source `(V_("in") gt V_(z))`, a series resistance `R_(s)` and a load resistance `R_(L)`.
Any increase/decrease of voltage drop across `R_(s)` produce no change in voltage across the zener diode. For `(V_("in") lt V_(z))`, the zener diode not function. thus zener diode acts as voltage regulator.
