The large barrel thick walled cell present in a trichome is called as heterocyst it is terminal of intercalary in position The terminal heterocyst contains a single polar nodule and a single polar whereas intercalary heterocyst contains two polar nodules and two polar pores. Heterocyst's contain introgenase enzyme which helps in nitrogen fixation.
