What is solute potential negative? Explain `psi_(w)=psi_(s)+psi_(p)`.

Text Solution

Water potential of pure water is taken as zero. Addition of solute particles reduces water potential. Therefore, solute potential is always less than zero is negative.
`psi_(w)=psi_(s)+psi_(p)`.
`psi_(w)=` Water potential `psi_(s)=` Solute potential, `psi_(p)=` Pressure potential (Turgor pressure)
