Removal of shoot tips, make the hedge in tea plantations. Give reasons.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

In most higher plants, the growing apical bud inhibits the growth of the lateral (auxillary) buds, a phenomenon called apical dominance. Removal of shoot tips (decapitation) usually results in the growth of iateral buds, thus it is widely applied in tea plantations for hedge making.
