How many grams of Cl(2) are required to ...

How many grams of `Cl_(2)` are required to completely react with 0.4 g of `H_(2)` to yield HCl? Also calculate the amount of HCl formed.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`H_(2)(g) + Cl_(2)(g) to 2HCl(g), 2 xx 1=2, 2 xx 35.5 = 71`
2g of `H_(2)` reacts with 71 g of `Cl_(2)` to give 73 g of HCl.
0.4 g of `H_(2)` reacts with `71/2 xx 0.4 = 14.2`g of `Cl_(2)` to give `(73 xx 0.4)/2 = 14.6` g of HCl.
14.2 g of `Cl_(2)` and 14.6 g of HCl.
