With example explain the term 'Heat of transition'.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Heat of transition is the change in enthalpy produced, when one mole of one allotropic form of an element is converted into another allotropic form.
Example : `"C(diamond)" rarr "C(graphite)", Delta H = -x_(1)kJ` when 1 mole of diamond is converted into graphite, `x_(1) kJ` of heat is liberated `- x_(1) kJ` is the heat of transition in this case.
