Derive Gibb's Helmholtz equation....

Derive Gibb's Helmholtz equation.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

In a process `A rarr B`, if `G_(1)` is the initial free energy and `G_(2)` the final free energy,
`G_(1) = H_(1) - TS_(1)` and `G_(2) = H_(2) - TS_(2)`
where `H_(1)` and `H_(2)` represent initial and final enthalpies and `S_(1)` and `S_(2)` represent initial and final entropies respectively.
Gibb's energy change is given by,
`G_(2) - G_(1) = (H_(2) - TS_(2)) - (H_(1) - TS_(1))`
`Delta G = (H_(2) - H_(1)) - T(S_(2) - S_(1))`
`Delta G = Delta H - TDelta S`.
