Explain Gibb's energy change and equilibrium.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

In a reversible reaction `A + B hArr C + D`, the same equilibrium can be attained from either direction. If A and B are mixed, Gibb's free energy of the system decreases. This continues until the equilibrium state is reached. At this state, the Gibb's free energy is minimum. It does not change further. If C and D are mixed, the GIbb's free energy decreases. THis also leads to the same state of equilibrium.

`Delta G = 0` at equilibrium.
This is the state of minimum Gibb's energy.
