Water cannot be used to extinguish petrol fires. Why ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Water is used to extinguish most fires because it lowers the temperature of burining material. However, in case of petrol fires, petrol being lighter than water, floats over water and hence fire spreads instead of being extinguished.
