Plants absorb `CO_(2)` . In the presence of chlorophyll and sunlight the absorbed `CO_(2)` combines with `H_(2)O` to form glucose and starch. This process is called photosynthesis.
`6 CO_(2) +12H_(2)O underset("sunlight")overset("chlorophyll") (rarr)C_(6)H_(12)O_(6)+6CO_(2)+6H_(2)O`
