Discuss isomerism in alkynes....

Discuss isomerism in alkynes.

Text Solution

(a) Chain isomerism: The isomers differ in the arrangement of carbon atoms in parent chain.
`CH_(3) underset("pent - 1 - yne")(CH_(2)CH_(2))C equiv CH CH_(3)-underset(3 - "Methyl But- 1 - yne")overset(CH_(3))overset(|)(CH) - C equiv CH`
(b) Position isomerism : it is due to the difference in position of tirple bond in carbon chain.
Ex: ` CH_(3) - underset("But-1-yne")(CH_(2)) - C equiv CH " " CH_(3) - underset("But-2-yne")(C equiv C) - CH_(3)`
Functional isomerism: - Here alkynes and diene are function isomers. Because both have same molecular formula.
Ex: `CH_(3) - underset(2-"Propyne")(C equiv C) - CH_(3) " " underset("ptop-1,2- diene(allene)") (CH_(2) = C = CH_(2))`
