Define dipolement of a polar bond. Show that `BeF_(2)` molecule has zero diplomoment.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

It is the product of magnitude of the charge and the distance between the centres of positive and negative charges.

The dipoles of two same bonds (B-F) are in opposite directions, Due to which the dipolement gets cancel each other. Hence `BeF_(2)` is non polar.
