Give an example for zero order reaction.

Text Solution

Rate of a reaction which is independent of initial concentration of the reactant is called zero order reaction.
`R to P` rate ` = k[R]^(0)`
Example:
(1) Thermal decompostion of HI on gold surface.
`2HI(g) underset(Delta)overset("Gold surface")to H_(2)(g) + I_(2)(g)`
(2) Decomposition of ammonia on hot platinum surface.
`2NH_(3)(g) underset(1130K)overset(Pt Delta) N_(2)(g) + 3H_(2)(g)`
